Virus-infected emails typically contain small programs embedded in attachments. When you accidentally download and open such an attachment, the virus is executed and automatically replicates itself into more normal programs, thereby compromising your computer.

The Coremail system provides a free anti-virus engine that automatically scans your mailbox for various virus-infected emails. If a virus is detected in an email attachment you receive, you can delete the email or contact the sender and ask them to resend the attachment after cleaning their system with anti-virus software.
